At-Your-Own Pace for Mental Health

Join our annual At-Your-Own Pace, a “virtual” ride for mental health event throughout April, May, and June. Even when we can’t all ride together, we can still share our joy of riding!

Wherever you are, however long or short you want, get out and ride for your mental health. Then log your mileage here to help us reach our collective goal of 500 miles by the end of June.

Sign up now, then ride any distance, anywhere, by yourself or with friends!

Registration is just $25, and once we reach our collective mileage goal, everyone who registered will receive an At-Your-Own Pace ribbon!

Plus, we are raising money for mental health research! When you register, you will be able to create your personal fundraising message to share with others about the importance of mental health and overcoming the stigma of mental illness. Share that message so friends and family can leave comments and donations to help us reach our $1,000 goal for brain & behavior research and trail conservancy!

What is At-Your-Own Pace?

At-Your-Own Pace is virtual riding event to encourage everyone to get out and ride. We ride because it is great for our mental health; we ride to raise awareness of the stigma of mental illness; and we ride to raise money for mental health research and trail conservancy. And, of course, for the At-Your-Pace ribbon!

Who organizes At-Your-Own Pace?

HIKE for Mental Health is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to overcoming the stigma of mental illness, promoting the benefits of outdoor activity, and conserving wilderness trails.

How far do I have to ride?

You can ride as little or as much as you want. It is completely up to you. Once you sign up, you will be able to add your ride mileage to our group goal. As you log more miles, you will receive online “badges” to share your achievements with friends via social media.

Where do I ride?

Anywhere you want! Any ride this summer for your mental health can be part of At-Your-Own Pace. Take one big trip, or ride a little every day. You decide how and where you want to participate.

How much does registration cost?

Registration is $25. The fee covers the cost of the ribbon, postage to get it to you, and other organizing expenses for the virtual event.

How does the fundraising work?

When you sign up, you get to personalize a fundraising page. By sharing your page with others, you build awareness and give them an opportunity to make a donation to the campaign. There is no minimum fundraising requirement to participate, but everyone who reaches $250 or more by the end of October will receive a cool, quick-dry HIKE for Mental Health hiking shirt. Yes, we know it says “Hike” and not “Ride”. If the event is a big success, we will look to get special shirts for next year! For this year, just give it to your horse – after all, he or she is the one doing the “hiking”!

Where does the money go?

HIKE for Mental Health is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded on the vision of a world in which everyone, including those who suffer mental illness, can find the simple joy of living. Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of those afflicted by mental illness, eliminate the associated stigma, and to foster responsible use of wilderness trails. As an all-volunteer organization, we distribute 100% of contributions raised by our hikers and riders.

80 cents from every dollar funds scientific research to understand, prevent, and treat mental illness.

20 cents maintains and preserves wilderness trails

All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the IRS.
