Join us at Turkey Run State Park on Saturday May 2nd, 2026 at 10 a.m. for the 4th “Paul’s Memorial Hike for Mental Health”. This year we will start with a breakfast (donations accepted but not required) at 10 a.m. with the hike(s) to follow at around 11:00 a.m. The purpose of this hike is to remember my son by sharing in his love for adventures in the great outdoors, to bring awareness and break the stigma of mental illness, and to raise funds in a partnership with HIKE for Mental Health. Hike for Mental Health gives 100% of the proceeds to mental health research as well as to conserve wilderness trails so that others can maintain their mental health by enjoying hiking on trails.

Paul always enjoyed the outdoors and could be found out camping, fishing, hiking, backpacking, trail riding, and rock climbing. Paul struggled with mental health issues at various stages of his life and at varying levels, however he seemed to be at his best when he would spend time investing in himself by doing the things he loved outside. Unfortunately Paul lost the battle by taking his life in March of 2023. As tragic as this was I know his loss can be used to have a positive impact if we can remember the fun loving, free-spirited side of Paul by enjoying one of the things he loved. Hiking!

This is also an opportunity for others that have suffered similar losses to remember their loved one. I encourage anyone that has lost a loved one due to a mental health issue to join me in making a memory board to honor them and bring awareness to break the stigma to seeking out mental health treatment.
