For those who don’t know, the Long Trail really is a long trail: it starts at the MA/VT border and ends at the VT/Canada border 270 miles later. I finished hiking this trail a few years ago. I’ve hiked the whole Appalachian Trail and numerous trails all over the US and without a doubt this is the toughest of all of them. It simply turns into something like a big wet bouldering course for about 100 miles. So, I figured, why not go back and do it again? It’s a chance to apply all I learned the first time I hiked the LT and an opportunity to raise some more money for mental health at the same time. Am I a glutton for punishment? Maybe. But definitely I enjoy learning and problem-solving (I am a mathematician after all) and to me backpacking is ultimately about learning and problem-solving; in particular, a chance to learn about oneself and the wonderful wisdom of creation. Furthermore, the Long Trail is just plain beautiful; it’s in Vermont after all!
So I hope you will click on the button to donate to my campaign. It doesn’t matter if you donate $5 or $500 or somewhere between. And, I never see a dime of this money- it all goes to support research in mental health by a reputable scientific foundation and to support conservation projects. I also hope you check back on this page for occasional updates. You can also follow my progress on Bluesky @thedieselat91.bsky.social (Bluesky = X for people who learned how to spell) where I’ll be posting pictures, occasional videos of waterfalls, etc. The image on this page is a picture from my first hike of the LT.
Thanks for visiting and God bless.
