Dear Mel,

Thank you for sharing your story. My mom died of suicide 33 years ago, and we just lost my cousin-in-law to suicide last December. I have been treated for moderate depression for years via therapy and medication. As you said, it is nothing to be ashamed of. After doing some serious genealogy over the past couple of years, I realize that mental health has been an issue on my mother’s side for generations.

I am so glad you are here with us and have the support you need and deserve.

Sending you love and strength.

Mel, thank you for all you do! You are kind and compassionate person that I feel oddly connected to even though we have never met. I’ve been following you and Floki for years. Never have I thought a fierce and strong woman like you could suffer from such a debilitating illness like I do. When you opened up about your struggles that is when I felt that connection with you. People that share my struggle with depression are the most amazing people to me. It is so difficult to navigate life when dealing with this. It doesn’t matter if your rich or poor or who you are. Money can’t buy happiness. I applaud you and anyone that can sley the demons if life and climb that perverbial mountain and beat this hell. I’m so proud of you and the person that you are. Never ever give up! You are so loved and respected and most of all needed. Your family needs you and so don’t we. Good luck on your hike!!! 🥾
